Living Water
Long days seem to come more often than I’d like. When physically tired and mentally exhausted, clear blue waters and white sandy beaches are ideal but unfortunately, not always realistic. My alternative is escaping to my shower. Yes, my bathroom shower.
I know you may be wondering where this is going. But honestly, who doesn’t enjoy a long warm shower?
For me, it equates to being in a personal oasis. Although the sound of running water and the exhaust fan alone is sometimes adequate, I typically incorporate music (usually worship) to aid in my escape. The combination of these sounds drowns out the noise around me and brings to a halt the thoughts in my mind.
Standing in my oasis, I allow the water to run all over me as I surrender my thoughts to God. In no time, I enter into a meditative state. As you are already aware, the water flowing from the shower head holds many purposes. It’s cleansing, refreshing, and restorative.
On the contrary, shower water also has its limitations. You can’t take it with you. If you don’t pay the water bill, it will be shut off. If you run the water too long, it will eventually get cold. If there is a water main break, the water may stop flowing or the pressure will be weak.
But, there is a source of water that I know of that is limitless! It’s the living water a.k.a the Holy Spirit!
Not only can the living water flow all over you but it is so powerful that it flows from within you. It is absolutely therapeutic!
Just look at what else the living water can do…
It cleanses us (Hebrews 10:22).
It restores our souls (Psalm 23:3).
It rejuvenates us (John 3:7).
It brings God’s Word to remembrance and clears our minds of confusion (John 14:26).
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.
John 14:26 CSB
It brings comfort when you connect with it (2 Corinthians 1:5).
It’s abundant, everlasting, and will not stop flowing (John 7:38).
The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.
John 7:38
Did I already say it was abundant? That means there is more than enough for each and every one of us.
We can take it with us wherever we go, and it can never be taken away from us. It will literally drown out every single issue if we just let it run all over us.
And that’s not all…
One of the best things about it is, it’s free.99!! That’s right, I said it’s free. You see the bill was paid for you and me on Calvary. All we have to do is accept this priceless gift and it is ours.
Don’t sleep on this y’all. If you haven’t already done so, get yourself some of this water. You won’t regret it!
Reflecting Beyond the World
Have you experienced an overflow of the living water within yourself? In what ways has the showering of the living water helped you?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for being a refreshing shower when my days feel like a dry parched land. Help me to remember that your fountain of living water is substantially superior to any well I could ever dig for myself. In the name of Jesus, Amen
